Valerie Han's not one for commitment. It's not the fact that she can't keep stability in her life. She simply just doesn't want to. However, the day the Han family adopted Valerie, her life completely turned upside down.
Though it didn't take long before another change happened. Howard Han, her protective brother, took her with him to find peace outside of their morally troubled family... Despite practically raising her, Valerie left her brother to explore the world on her own. Days became weeks, weeks became months, and soon those months became years.
When word, 2 years late, got to her regarding the death of her adopted mother, she realizes she's been isolating herself for too long. Not wanting to lose anymore time with Howard, the only person in her life that has shown care for her, she reunites with him.
Now shes part of a new family, one she hopes she will never disappear from. She learns to love, hope, and no longer fear safety as she meets the crew of station 118. Especially one specific person, Evan Buckley.

Still at age 9, Buck realizes he's getting even less and less attention from his parents causing him to increase his reckless ideas from skateboarding accidents to playing with fires. He's craving any type of attention from his parents even negative.
Bobby Nash firefighter Captain of the 118 lost his family in a fire. His firehouse gets a call of a reported house fire and the only person saved is a small kid named Evan Buckley.
Without any family willing to take him, and the police unable to locate his sister, Bobby gets clearance to give the child a roof over his head. He was drawn to the boy, and he knows he can take good care of him.
