Like any good story, this one starts with a funeral.

Chris's girlfriend, Mindy Forino, went missing six years ago.

Well, maybe "went missing" isn't the best way of phrasing it. She ran away. Just as her relationship with Chris was finally getting to blossom in the way they'd both always wanted it to. After an unexpected and ugly tragedy, Mindy left a letter that very vaguely explained that she "had to leave," and that was that. No one knew where she was, or if she was even alive, for six years. There were rumors as to why she left, mostly having to do with the fact that her last boyfriend before Chris had wound up dead in a ditch, but Chris knew Mindy, and knew that there had to be some other reason as to why she'd left. He just wished that she could have told him, and that he could have helped her.

So imagine Chris's surprise when, after all those years of being bitter at Mindy's disappearance, she shows up back in town for her father's funeral - and she isn't alone, walking into the funeral with a little girl at her side. Now it would seem that Mindy would be back in town permanently, taking over the bookstore her father had run when he was alive. It doesn't take long for Chris to remember just how in love with her he was when she disappeared, and he soon makes it his mission to find out why she'd left, why she was still being so secretive, and if the two of them would ever be able to find love with each other again.

Chris Cerulli's best female friend has been Melanie Dawson since they were in childhood. They never ever saw themselves as anything more than that. They had an absolutely wonderful friendship together though. After being friends for over twenty-five years, they'd been through pretty much everything together. Chris was even up front with the bridesmaids when Melanie got married. Melanie is a pathologist (a doctor that performs autopsies on dead bodies) and is often busy with her work. Chris is obviously busy with the band too, but he and Melanie still managed to keep their friendship in tact and Chris was even close with Melanie's daughter, Sadie, and friends with Melanie's husband, John. After nearly ten years of marriage, Melanie finds herself divorced from John, and on her own with Sadie. So, whenever he is home from tour, one of Chris' top priorities is to help out Melanie around the house, with her dog, and with Sadie. Sadie and Chris are incredibly close. When Sadie was born, Chris was the first one to hold her after Melanie and John. So having Chris around more often is wonderful for Sadie; mostly because Chris is very understanding of her and incredibly open-minded. Sadie is just a bit...different, and Chris is the perfect example for her to show that being different is an okay and good thing. When tragedy strikes, Chris is immediately there for Melanie and Sadie and instantly knows how to comfort them. With being so close to Melanie this often now, Chris begins to realize that maybe, after all these years, he might have been looking at her the wrong way, and feelings may be starting to develop. Could Melanie be the one for him after all?

Chris wasn't necessarily looking for a relationship when his gorgeous new neighbor moved in across the hall from him, especially considering the fact that she had a boyfriend already. Saanvi had been born and raised in another country, and as hers and Chris's friendship develops, Chris soon learns that the only reason Saanvi is with her boyfriend in the first place is so that when the two of them get married, she can get a green card - not because she actually loves him. So what happens when Chris starts to develop feelings for his new friend, who is engaged to someone else? What about when Saanvi begins to develop feelings for him in return? Now, she's left with an incredibly difficult decision to make - should she marry someone she doesn't love so that she can attain American citizenship? Or should she risk losing it all in order to be with the one that she truly loves?
