"There once was a time where Russia was beautiful. Where it glittered with crown jewels and dazzling parties full of my family and friends. Before people turned ugly and damned themselves for what they did to my son and his children. Now it is nothing: an empty husk of a December night's dream." "You're very poetic, Your Majesty, but I still must ask. Why are we here?" "Because I believe that somewhere out there, my granddaughter is alive." It was safe to say that Dmitri hated St Petersburg- now Leningrad- with a burning passion. His whole life had been spent crammed inside the once-royal city amongst the lowest of the lows and he was ready to escape. All he wanted was a big- no, a comfortable home with a large garden, surrounded by hot food and a warm bath. It seemed almost impossible. Almost. When a rumour starts seeping through the cracks and back alleys of Petersburg, Dmitri and an ex-count team up with an unusual, amnesiac girl to snatch a wealthy reward and get out of Russia for good. Of course, absolutely nothing goes to plan.
