Don't forget he still hated them and that hatred grew even more when he started to realise how much more he was of a fun thing to play with rather than for love. When he came back he wanted to avoid them all.

When he left they all were thinking about the boy and was starting to miss him. They were realising how good he was to them and how they treated him so poorly and left him because they were stupid before.
