Gemstones gave superpowers to some, so jealousy gave rise to a rebellion and takeover of the superheroes' home world.
Blood rituals, massive casualties, a supervillain army an all-powerful leader.... They sealed that world off and left.
However, you can't hide your mess in the closet for too long... Part of the leader escaped.
Now it's the future superheroes' problems, they are surely thrilled about that....
The Veil between the worlds is open now everyone who can use magic...can. Family abductions, a giant rampaging a city, arson, singing death flowers, an insurrection, explosions, mass murder, raising the dead. Outsourcing super villains, of course, they would; their army is just too huge.
Akili, a fae, enlists the superheroes who have awakened.
Sarah- Nerd, chubby, homeschooled... Wait, what do you mean she was raised in a religious cult?
Kanye- A young, smart man who was about to graduate high school and join the police force for a promising career.... Why is he being dragged into that abandoned building by that group of men?
And Jabbar- A royal in an Egyptian-style world, a reader and an explorer. Aaaannnnd he's being whipped in the marketplace....Never mind, he was saved. Whoa, what are they rubbing all over him? Hey, why is Sarah naked in your palace...Is she in your bed?
"How am I going to train these fools to use their powers? These are the ones who will be saving Earth and the other worlds....Keep your hands above the table where I can see them!" Akili says, then looks at her magic orb.
"Oh, look, pirates!" Sarah says
"Stay away from those!" Kanye exclaims
"Does he ever stop staring?" Sarah wonders out loud, looking at Jabbar, who is staring at her, "No," he replies, smiling at her.
And to think they will have to live together from now on, I will have so much fun, Akili thinks, watching her magic orb and waiting for keyshards to appear.
