Life hasn't been kind to me, but I haven't been kind to it.

Meet Scarlett Evans, a 23 year old girl who leads an average life, living in London with her best friends Ava Rhodes, and Tomm Mason.
Despite her sucess on stage as part of a dance and drama company, Scarlett's parents strongly disagree with her career choice - but her high school grades leave her with limited options. Ava, as a nurse, adopted the role of Scarlett's surrogate mother for over 7 years.
Although her (as Ava would put it) 'Victoria's Secret' appearance has attracted a large amount of male attention, all her previous relationships have been dysfunctional, and Scarlett has been unlucky in love - to say the least.

But, while Azog the Defiler is gone, another has taken his place and like his predecessor, has vowed to end the line of Durin for once and for all, and just might be successful in shattering the fragile peace Thorin and Amara find in each other's arms.

The Defiler might be gone, but his bounty remains very much in place, and she fully intends to collect on it. Finally, the opportunity shows itself for her to do just that, only to have it go horribly awry. And when she finally tracks Thorin down, she fully intends to keep that promise. Thorin, however, has different plans. He is on his way to the town of Bree, in search of his own father, Thráin, who has been missing for years. When he stumbles headlong into an assassination attempt, he is grateful for the boy who appeared as if from nowhere who comes to his aid. This is set post-Smaug and before the dwarves resettle in the Blue Mountains. It describe the years in the life of Thorin Oakenshield between those two events. It is a story of love, lust and adversity. It is also my very first fanfiction with plot. It took me months to write it, so please; be gentle! First of all, I would like the thank my beta-reader and mentor Lady Anne, for all her help and support. Specials thanks to Lady Oakenshield who was kind enough to do a second read for mistakes and typos. Hopefully, they are all gone now! Please note, that I am NOT a Tolkien expert. I did check the Simarilion a couple of times to make sure that what I was writing made sense, but it is possible that some details might not fit in. Also of note, I took inspiration from the fanfic Clarity by Forianna and Thorinsexenshield, for my idea of Arukhel, and though I put a twist on it, I still prefered to reference it, as I did not mean to steal this idea from the author in any way.
