A Brandon Flowers Fanfiction Romance. Catherine Williamson leaves Scotland at the start of the new century, 1900, with her parents and sets sail for America, full of the promise of owning their own land and tilling the fertile sun-soaked soil of the American west. But after the loss of both her parents during the voyage, her plans change dramatically and she finds herself a charity case, taken in by a minister and his wife. Catherine is marked, not only by her grief and her trapped circumstances, but by a red circular birthmark that covers the skin around her eye like a patch. This singles her out, makes her known, when all she wants is to disappear. That is until she meets a lonely homesteader, Brandon Flowers, who carries his own marks.

Eighteen-year-old Iris Howell thought she was living her best life until those two pink lines showed up on the pregnancy test. In a flash, all her future dreams went up in smoke. Ten years later, she's now a single mom to a rambunctious little girl who has become her world. It wasn't easy having to grow up so quickly without the support of her high school sweetheart, but she's doing her best. Dating was the furthest thing on her mind, but her best friend still insisted she sign up for a dating app to see if Mr. Right Now was out there somewhere. Little did she know, one of her first matches would be Monty King, her high school boyfriend's older brother. She can't deny her attraction to him or how he makes her feel, but she knows this is a mess just waiting to happen. Montgomery King may have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but that wasn't the life he wanted to live. He never fit in with the lifestyle his upper-class parents tried to force him into and he never got along with his lazy brother who was more than happy to lazily mooch off the family dollar. He took the first chance he could to join the military and do something better with his life. His years in the military are well done and he's still avoided his family and their money-hungry ways until his company relocates to his hometown. The only good part about the move is reconnecting with Iris Howell, even if she is his brother's ex-girlfriend. Iris isn't looking for a relationship and certainly isn't trying to find herself tied down with another King brother and she has good reason not to. However, Monty is making it his new mission to show her that she was with the wrong brother before.

Yet, even with this promise of safety for their peoples and kingdoms, Lukas and Valentina couldn't stand the thought of unifying to each other, with the dangerous secrets of their families history with each other. They fight against this thought of alliance, but in the end, know that this is what they must do to keep their land safe. But, their peoples are starting to see through their fraud chemistry, and if they really want to fool the world with this arranged marriage, they'll have to really get better at feigning their love. And as the days go on, the question stands if they can swallow their prides and admit that they no longer have to fake the romance that they have found between them on this journey.
