It had taken as little as five minutes for it all to disappear. The life that I'd built for myself, each excruciating and aching step that I'd taken to get myself here against all the odds. To fight those who held me back and embrace those who pushed me forward. It took all but 𝘧𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴.

Death leaned against the doorframe. His cloak's shadow loomed over me as I lay still beside my carcass, as I had been doing for the past hour. I didn't open my eyes once during that time, scared of the reality I'd have to face once I did. I could smell the rotting begin in my scalp from here and it was making me sicker by the second.
