Tate Dwyer's mother is missing. A photographer working with sex workers, Tate discovers she never really knew her mum as her own life falls apart. As Tate tries to find her mother, she receives a message from someone calling themselves TheSofaKing that threatens to change her life forever.

TheSofaKing is a story about the internet, family secrets, shame, trauma and how much we really know our parents, our children and each other.

It's a mature story with adult themes including suicide, depression, sex, drugs, and more. Please only read this story if you are able to engage with mature themes safely. Nothing is presented in gratuitous detail, though these themes are explored in a way that might be triggering if you're going through something difficult. As someone who has suffered from various mental health issues, I feel for you and hope you stay safe and well.❤️ This story does not glorify or romanticize these issues in any way, though it does seek to engage with how these experiences touch and change us as people.

Updates every week. Thanks for reading - I can't wait to share more of this story with you all!

Big love,
James

*CURRENTLY GOING THROUGH SECOND REVAMP* Exhale, repeat. How far will you go? Ask Julian Laurence and he will tell you he is living the dream. Despite his flaws and overwhelming anxiety, Julian has everything he needs at school. Wealthy, privately educated, and surrounded by his friends; what more can a 16 year old ask for? But behind autumn winds and the second hand smoke there is something far more sinister. Julian finds his perfectly orchestrated comfort turned inside-out as a new student arrives, and old stories return. There is only so much the human spirit can take. A slow burning story of love, grief, and mystery that follows observant Julian through his final years at school as his relationships with those around him are tested. As always, in loving memory of the real Josiah-Jean, who has breathed life into the beloved Josiah in this story. Growing up in a house with whispered secrets and closed doors leaves Jamie struggling to believe he is truly part of the family. Not quite fitting in at school, home should be his sanctuary, but it is the place where he feels most alone. "When I was six my life was perfect, and then mom married Louis. He was more like my best friend than a parent but eventually, that began to change. Once they had kids of their own, I couldn't help feeling pushed out."
