-This story will go along with the first and second movie, maybe the third movie-
Rowan is the older brother and best friend to Hiccup. Yes, Hiccup is scrawny, not the best viking, but that didn't matter to Rowan. He only hangs out with him...well because...Rowan didn't have anyone else. He didn't like the other teens or adults (except Gobber) so he just hangs out with his little brother.
Rowan isn't the best viking either, but he is a little more muscular than Hiccup and is four years older than him. They both work for Gobber, and both want to kill a dragon, but Hiccup wants to at least get noticed in the village and not get picked on.
But that changes when Hiccup shoots down a certain dragon, and Rowan well he also shoots down a dragon(but that's later in the story).

As his only son, he is next in line for the chiefdom which wouldn't be a problem, if he wasn't a runt. Viking's believe that a name is what strikes fear into your enemies. Hiccup's obviously doesn't. The name is given to those who won't survive their first winter. Those who don't belong, those who will not be any more than a burden. Hiccup isn't an exception to this. I mean, sure he survived his first winter, and the next fifteen. But he caused problems, not on purpose. Things just happened when he was around. First when he was six, and a nearby furnace blew up when he lost his temper. Then when he was eight, nine, eleven. These strange happenings kept occurring, and nothing he did helped. Everything he did, everything he tried had some way of turning back on him. For the longest time he believe that the God's cursed him.
