"It's ok mom," I finally said, "It's fine. I'll leave the house. Just know that I love you, and I'll never forget you." As I headed to my room.

"Listen, Melanie. Never come back here. Even when your child is born, do not bring it here to see us. And for as long as I live, you'll always remain dead to me."

Those words struck like a thunderbolt. The tears that I had been holding for quite some time now flowed freely.

I'm officially DEAD to my father, I thought as I gathered all my belongings. It's as if I had been disowned. I inhaled the scent of what used to be my room and walked out of it.

As I headed for the front door, I took a look at what used to be my home, my family and walked away.

This is my new life, I said as I took the road to who knows where.
