Iris Irai, a half-demon of wrath, is living in anything but paradise. She works as a cleaning lady at the Paradise Resort, a hotel in the Florida Keys that is catered to retiree demons who vacation from Hell...and divulge in their sins on Earth. It's full of debauchery, depravity, and death. Iris doesn't want to be there; demons make the worst customers. She's paying off a debt for a virtue she committed years ago--and is still haunted by.
Something is wrong. The tides are turning. The customers are getting rowdier. The sea, colder. Dead bodies becoming more frequent. Abilities going haywire. A hurricane is forming offshore, literally and metaphorically, and it will destroy everything Iris knows.
...And then there's the mysterious angel, Riel, who tries to kill Iris and shut down the hotel.
She must work with him, exploring a strange hotel and equally strange Florida Keys, to find answers and dissipate the oncoming storm.
Together, they learn that there is more than good and bad, angels and demons--and they maybe even fall in love along the way.

After she passed I looked over to the main entrance, there were multiple vases of roses. I went to the one that had a note pinned to one of the thorny flowers. It said 'Six hundred and sixty-six reasons that I want to see you again. - Lucius Stewart.' How did he even know I would be here? I was in complete shock. Six hundred and sixty-six flowers for six hundred and sixty-six reasons? He might as well have just tattooed 'Devil's Spawn' on his forehead. How could one man be so rich and so powerful, seemingly just as smart, but be so God damn cliche? It would've been more respectable for him to have put 'Hey! Can't wait to sixty-nine with you!' Might as well just introduce himself as his unholiness and tell everyone about all the souls he tortured during his childhood. I have six hundred and sixty-six reasons to want to make him fall in love with me so that I don't have to live in hell for all eternity. Un-fucking-believably stupid. Cecilia Star has been alive long enough to know what it's like to be a demon in the human realm, but she's also been alive long enough to cope with her everyday life. But when she wakes up handcuffed to a strange Angel she's never met before, she's thrown for a loop. Cecilia assumes it's all just one big, extremely cruel prank by the twins in order to rile her up and test her limits. After all, Maisie is everything that Cecilia would rather leave behind her, determined, opinionated, and so very clearly wrong. But it doesn't take Cecilia and Maisie long to realize that the handcuff prank is a little more than just a lighthearted joke. The thing about Demon metal is that it is a fickle thing. It can only be unlocked by the person who has the key and no matter what method is used, it cannot be broken. Cecilia would rather just forget the whole thing, refuse to give Ezekiel the satisfaction he so wants, and remain handcuffed to Maisie for the rest of her life. It doesn't take long to realize that it's just not possible. Maisie is everything that she shouldn't be in the human realm. Bigoted, rude, and annoyingly difficult. She can't even get close to Cecilia without making some sort of remark on how she can't stand Demons. As the time ticks down and options become less and less, maybe being handcuffed to each other will teach Cecilia and Maisie a thing or two about themselves.
