Tate has been the bartender at The Imp's Bottle for years. The dive bar attracts a trickling array of unusual patrons, but due to his social anxiety, Tate avoids conversation and interaction.

...Until a random encounter with a beautiful girl causes Tate to open up in a way he never imagined possible. Unbeknownst to Tate, the girl's kindness plants a seed, inspiring him to abandon his wallflower nature.

The changes are subtle at first, but rather than hyperfocus on his beloved retro music and impulsive need to clean, Tate begins to converse and interact with the bar's patrons. He becomes more outspoken, engaged, and confident. And his positive changes inspire changes in those around him.

However, not everyone is thrilled with Tate's newfound confidence. Ali, the bar's prickly lone waitress, has a bone to pick with Tate. And she plans to come out on top of their little workplace rivalry, no matter the cost to her coworker.

I looked down at my freshly painted acrylic nails. My heart was racing and my palms were sweating. Although I was having a good time. It was time for me to get out with it. I needed to just spit it out. It's a question that's been lingering in my mind all night. It may ruin the night, but for the sake of my sanity I needed to ask Barron. Here goes nothing. "Barron, can I ask you a question?" I said as I twiddled my fingers together nervously. He nodded his head giving me his full attention. "What are we doing?" I asked softly. Barron rested his elbow on the table and shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know, I guess we are hanging out." He answered with no emotion. "Hanging out? You taking me to all these places is just us hanging out?" I said a little taken back. I was not prepared for that reply. I should have known. "Wanted to be bold." I blush while I avoid eye contact. "Devin needed to borrow clothes for gym." I stare at my bare legs. "I should've told her no." He shrugs, biting into his sub. "Not a fan of exposing the body." I nibble on my burrito. "I just don't want anyone to get the wrong idea." I tuck my hair behind my ear. "That you're easy." My face reddens as I look at him in the corner of my eyes. After a few moments, I nod. He sighs. "The only thing that makes a girl easy is if she lets every and any guy inside." He runs his fingers through his hair. "Clothes or attitude has nothing to do with it." I trace a circle on my thigh. "And a guy that believes otherwise is either a dick or a rapist." I smile. "Avery." "Ava." "Your brain works in wonderful ways." I get more comfortable and lean on his shoulder. "So you've said." I giggle. "I'm glad to share the same name as you." ~ A girl, a perfectionist, named Avery Jones has been in love with her childhood friend's brother for as long as she can remember. He's never noticed her, though, he doesn't really notice anyone. He's sort of an insouciant philanderer. They couldn't be any different, the only thing that connects them is their names. Oh, by the way, his name is also Avery Jones; no relation. As crazy as it might sound, it's true. Anyway, it isn't until she becomes his mentor that he finally sees her. But will this new circumstance spark a connection or show just how different they are?

His eyes narrow into slits, "Don't you dare-" "What do you call a fish wearing a bowtie?" Instantly, Sawyer frowns, an unimpressed expression on his face. I smile, grabbing his cheeks and squishing them, "Don't make that face!!! C'mon, you gotta ask!! What do you call a fish wearing a bowtie?" He glares at me, "We're not doing this shit, Mari-" "Yes, we are!!" I let go of his face, "You ready?!!" "No." "I'm gonna say it." "You better not-" "SoFISHticated." "You're a dumbass." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Slow Burn, Lengthy Chapters, Long Story* This Story Takes Place in 2023-2024 Marianne Parker and Sawyer Cortez are complete opposites of each other. Marianne is a dad joke loving, talented musician who believes in finding the good in everything around her. Always smiling, laughing, kind to everyone, and an optimist. With a bubbly attitude and an outgoing personality, she's always looking to make a new friend. An all-around ray of sunshine. Sawyer, on the other hand, is a sarcastic, blunt, rude, and pessimistic bookworm. He doesn't believe there could be good in everything. He doesn't smile, doesn't laugh, and isn't interested in making new friends. Let alone, socializing. Hell, he BARELY tolerates his own friends. The total definition of a raincloud. Marianne's looking for a fresh start, and Sawyer wants a normal year of high school. When he meets Marianne, it becomes all too clear that there's something about her he can't ignore. From the way she walks, talks, laughs, and smiles, it's all distracting and unfamiliar to him. And, of course, he doesn't like that. In his efforts, he tries to ignore the feelings and avoid HER at all costs. But, that can be hard when the girl in question is EQUALLY interested in him too. Started August 2023 - ????
