Summary: In the nation of Avalon, spirits steal humans to convert them to spirithood, and the secret Society of Spirit-Holders in turn enslaves spirits to use their magic. Though only a spirit-in-training—being only half-spirit—Guard (21) has been captured on the eve of his conversion. But his owner, Mr. Roland Ravenscar (27), is just as unusual as his captive, for he is not driven by whim or the desire for power and a status symbol, but by the desire to rescue his sister (Guard’s contemporary) who was kidnapped by the spirits years ago. In this “guns and ghouls” fantasy, can slave and slaver learn to work together, or is the rescue mission doomed from the start? Told from Guard’s perspective.

Warning: Captive Spirit is self-fic, which is my play on words for fanfiction written about one’s own original work. Specifically, this is an Alternate Universe (AU) piece. This means “facts of setting or characterization in the universe being explored or written about are deliberately changed” (Wikipedia).

In other words, I’m playing with world-building, characterization, and story events, specifically the ending of Tower of Trials: Book One of Guardian Spirit (working title). As of the date of Captive’s first scene’s publication on Wattpad (Feb. 21, 2015), the fantasy novella I am AUing is not yet published. It is in proofreading stages, and the planned publication date is early March. It will be around 30,000 words and published for around $0.99 on as many vendors (Amazon Kindle, B&N Nook, etc.) as I can manage.

Lucy Caldwell suffered a disaster in her childhood - her house was burnt, which turned fatal for her parents. She grew up in a children's house together with other orphans.
