To Taylor, Jackie, Cara, and Veeves, it's only been a few hours since they descended into a mysterious cave to find their missing professor.
But just a hundred feet above them, years upon years have gone by. The earth has been razed of its vegetation and clean air. Most of the population has been transported away from the ravaged planet, up to Mars. The humans that remain barely scrape by with the dwindling resources they fight for.
Down below, Taylor and his friends fight for their own survival against man-hunting natives that fiercely protect a place only spoken of in urban legends. The students have already lost a dear friend, and they don't want to risk losing anyone else. So when they find out a way out of the cavern, it's immediate departure.
But what they find is like nothing they've ever seen.
Everything they know is gone, and there is no going back.

This story is about a 16 year old girl named Melody Swift. Ever since her mother died, her so-called "father" started abusing her. Kids at school are cruel, they bully her brutally just because she's different. She simply waits for everything to get better, after all what's the point in trying when the world will do whatever they can to drag you down. Her only escape from this twisted reality is a creature named Shadow. A terrifying creature that is somehow more humane than the so-called humans around her. Shadow could easily take all her problems away, but Melody refuses to take the easy way out. That is, until she just couldn't take it anymore, she takes Shadow's offer and soon her life got better. Her bullies started disappearing, showing up dead in the woods. Their bodies badly mutilated, almost unrecognizable. Life at school started getting better, she finally had human friends and even a boyfriend. Her "father" was found dead at her house. The torture had finally ended. We headed north for a day, or what i thought was north, to be honest, I couldn't tell. The pain from my leg was making my mind blur and each passing minute was pure agony. Nutmeg was beginning to tire and the pups, well I had to pick them up a while back, they kept on falling behind. I suppose I'm lucky in some ways, one of them been that it's spring and not winter but the wind is still cold, its always so cold... Hope I make this book as good as the last one. Due to Y/N's service history, he was allowed into the vault during the nuclear warhead exchange between America and China, and that's where our story starts.
