A sizeable number of the more than 121,000 foundations in the US -19,888- indicate that they do not accept unsolicited proposals.

We also know that a significant number of current and past FoundationSearch members (more than 16,000) do not approach them for that reason. Is there a missed opportunity here?

Many grant seekers believe that these funders are "captive funders" that act to support a single non-profit such as a school or hospital; or they have a small list of charitable organizations they wish to support and are not receptive to solicitations from new charities. In fact, many of our FoundationSearch users "tag" these foundations in order to exclude them from searches and prospect lists altogether.

But is this really an effective or advisable strategy?

Internet research on the topic reveals that Bradley Smith, the President of Foundation Center, wrote about this topic in 2011 in a blog post entitled "Don't Call us, We'll Call You". In this piece, he addresses some of the reasons why foundations state that they do not accept unsolicited proposals - the two principal reasons he cites are - one, a desire by funders to limit the volume of requests they are receiving, and two, a desire to proactively choose charities to fulfill their strategic goals. Unfortunately, he did not examine how pervasive the issue is with foundations, and we found no other credible research on the matter. So as such, we decided to do our own.

To do this, we conducted a comprehensive review of FoundationSearch data spanning more than fifteen years of US granting history for over 75,000 grantmaking foundations including more than 10 million grants to gain some insight.

Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy and a Guy. The talented twists of souls that combine to make the club are intertwined with the harsh reality of addiction. Did you know that people whom have addictions generally also are prone to high intelligence. As per Verata Health: Specifically, the study found that men who had a mean IQ score of 109 (the highest in the study) were trying drugs much earlier and also used drugs more frequently than those who tested with an IQ of 100. So the questions go through your hypothesis. Yes, each parent, friend, partner or loved one asks these questions! WHY?? These hypotheses argue that intelligent people who use drugs: Are easily bored - As a result, they look for new and novel things to push their mind. Drugs, being a dangerous and risky thing, entertain and even challenge their minds. Need new challenges - Success often comes easily to intelligent people and they may need to overcome new challenges regularly in order to feel a sense of personal progress. And what is more difficult than beating addiction? Try to fuel their creative fires - Intelligence and creativity are highly linked and the myth that drug use helps fuel creative genius has been spread for centuries. Unfortunately, this may lead intelligent people to try drugs. The Swear I Never Would Club consists of many members. I'd like to introduce you too some of them, if you'll let me. These stories are loosely based on people I've met throughout my journey through addiction and beyond. I am writing this as I experienced it through real situations and twisted tales. Enjoy the ride.

While her best friend Cassidy snacks on brie and boys in France, Darcy Li-Quinn must face her last year of high school and the unpredictable wrath of her sister, Danica, alone. Darcy's plan for dealing with Danica and her heinous friends is simple-be invisible. But first, she's promised Cassidy she'll do 'one brave thing'. Mustering the courage to say 'hi' to the cute boy on the bus, Darcy expects rejection or indifference. She doesn't anticipate a grumpy ghost with unfinished business who needs her help. Suddenly, a quiet year of flying under the radar looks increasingly unlikely. *** Rationally, Hunter Viera knows that his brother's death wasn't his fault. But that doesn't stop his guilt about Archer invading his every thought or lessen the grief sitting heavy in his chest. Changing schools offers a fresh start, and Hunter's plan is simple-be invisible. But he hasn't counted on Darcy, or her ludicrous claim that Archer speaks to her from beyond the grave. Suddenly, a quiet year of sitting on the sidelines looks increasingly unlikely. *** This is a story about hearts and hope and public transport. This is Darcy and Hunter's story (and a little bit Archer's too). *** 'Get A Life' is my entry for Open Novella Contest 2023 and is inspired by the following prompts. 20. You finally build enough courage to talk to that cute someone you see every day on the bus. Their face turns dark as they respond "You shouldn't be able to see me." 9. There's an urban legend that's been circulating for years about a taxi cab that doesn't take you where you want to go, but where you need to go. One night, you stepped into this cab.

Gangs. A girl. War. Fights. Love. Hate. Death. All words to describe the city of Athens. The most dangerous city in the country. But only those who have been there know that. Athens is not a place for tourism. Not many people who visit, make it out alive. Vicki, 16, has finally found a home willing to adopt her after 6 years of jumping from home to home, family to family, foster to foster. Some were good. Some bad. Some could, would, and did the unthinkable. But now she didnt have to deal with that. But she had no idea of the secrets that the friendly "welcome to Athens" sign hides. Or did she? She wasn't ever supposed to end up in the system. Or end up on her meds. She remembered nothing of her life before 10 years old. She had always knew something was missing, but this? This was more than she could ever handle remembering. **** "Wow, I thought it was just you guys and Artemis." "There's a whole world of gangs. There are gangs in every country, some even I don't know as a leader." "Is it tough being a leader?" "Some times. Especially when I have to deal with loss. But I also give some opportunities to people who need it. I've even given a homeless man a small job and it set him up for life." "That's cool. Are the Zusians tyrants. I mean were they?" something about the name doesn't shake me. It's stuck in my head for some reason. "They more are now. There's speculation that a kid got out safe and will one day take back the leadership, but after seeing the wreckage first hand, I don't think anybody left it alive," he says it. But he doesn't sound like he even believes himself. "Did the kid get out? Is it even slightly possible?" "Between you and me. I helped her escape. I know she got out. But I don't think she lived long after we lost contact. Why do you ask?" "Something about the name... It is vaguely familiar but I don't know why. Maybe it's just my meds." "You might have just heard it before." *** Cover by @_scintillas

"The Cave You Fear To Enter Hold The Treasure You Seek." Are you someone who believes in something beyond our understanding-a person who says, "There's something out there, but we won't know it until we can"? Who told you that the "right moment" even exists when time itself is a construct created by humans? Honestly, I'd suggest you put this book down and not waste your time, because everyone has their own "right time" to understand what I'm trying to convey here. I recorded myself while talking about things I had never even heard of before as a non religious person with lacking GOD concept. . It was me, yet it felt like an upgraded version of myself guiding me to develop further. This version of me presented an option: What if everything you know, everything you've been, and everything you've labeled could be erased, allowing you to start over and build a completely new sense of self? HER said, "If you're not ready to understand who I am and what I'm trying to say, then 'QUIT.' Because it took immense time, pain, and experience for you to endure and evolve to reach me and sustain this communication." And so, I did. The book you'll be reading is a transcript of the audio I recorded. Interestingly, it resembles a religious text-though, believe me, I didn't intend it to. It just happened. Later, I searched for the first "God word" that corresponded with specific numbers through the transcripts, and I discovered connections to related verses across 12 major global religions, smaller religions, indigenous beliefs, new religious movements, denominations, and sects which you will find them in the book. But here's the truth: everyone is capable of understanding-once they reach the right intellectual and spiritual evolution. I assume you've decided to stay. So, what if I told you that to truly be born into real reality, you must first experience a kind of death?....

Does your story & writing shine as far as: ★ - Concept ★ - Voice ★ - Storytelling The Standouts is a fun, but hopefully helpful contest that can give you a sense of whether your story resonates with someone who's got some experience under her belt. Great! But who are you to judge? Fair question. This is not to humble-brag, but I've been critiquing and have worked with story development for quite some time, and I've picked up a lot along the way. ☙ - As an Ambassador, I work on content projects. ☙ - If you look at my profile, you'll see everything I've published so far has managed to standout in one way or another, whether by leading me to become a Wattpad Star; or by winning a Watty (twice!); or by being picked as a Top 10 in major Wattpad contests (twice!); or being featured. All I'm saying is I'm no slouch. I'm not brilliant either. But I've got some experience around what can catch an agent, editor, or judge's eye, and I'd like to share that with the community. ☙ - In another lifetime, I used to work for HBO in Development and at ICM (the talent agency) in their writers' department which means I understand how professionals quickly gauge whether or not they'll take a closer look at a work and/or make an offer. This kind of insight can be helpful if you're planning to submit your work or even just want to stand out more here on Wattpad. ☙ - I used to provide critiques for three writers, all of them traditionally published. They seemed to value my insight. Read the RULES, LOGISTICS & PRIZES chapter for guidelines. All entries get a brief assessment of their first chapter, with winners getting more extensive critiques. Jane is simply trying to survive. In a world of nuclear post-apocalypse, blood-crazed Objectivists, immortality-seeking cultists, NFT-obsessed killbots, power-hungry narcissists, and nymphomaniac Anarchists. A stoic soldier with a heart of gold. How long will she go on until the past catches up with her? 10,500 words of visceral action, black humor, and extreme weirdness. The story is SUPER silly, but it has an important purpose. I'm only publishing it to raise funds for my hometown in Ukraine. As a city of 300,000 on the eastern border, Sumy was one of the first to be attacked by the Russian army. For more than a month, we suffered from airstrikes, artillery, blockades, and hunger. The city was encircled, yet it never fell. Now that Russians have retreated, we see death and destruction across the whole region. The Sumy volunteer community created a charity fund to help us survive, rebuild, and protect against the new attacks. Our website https://www.fond.sumy.ua/ lists different ways you can help the Sumy region. You can choose to donate specifically for: - Medicine - First aid kits - Optics - Communication devices - Armor plates for the territorial defense - Other needs (including clothing and food for the elderly, disabled, and most vulnerable people). Like many of you I've been a pacifist for my entire life, but now the only way to stop these horrors is to ensure Ukrainians have enough weapons to defend themselves. So if you want to help the Ukrainian army, the best way is to donate to the country's biggest charity fund Come Back Alive (https://www.comebackalive.in.ua/). Over the past 8 years, they've collected over $20 million donations and have a crystal-clear reputation. Please, donate if you enjoyed my story. And if you found it to be the shittiest thing ever written - roast me in public or in person - and I'll double your donation;) Raise the awareness! Now every penny, every word can save a life. "Are you ready, baby?" I'm asking her as much as I'm asking myself. She never lets her eyes leave mine. "Mm," she nods and I push all the way in. Her face twists in a mixture of torment and temptation. I hold myself still, feeling her tightness wrap every inch of me. Leaning forward, I press my forehead to hers. "No one will ever get you like I do. No one will ever f ck you like I do. No one will ever love you like I do, baby." --Though she's young, Silvie has spent a lifetime paying for other people's mistakes. That's what landed her in the sights of a wolf. A Gang of Wolves to be exact. Everything Wulf does is for his motorcycle club, but when Silvie- young, innocent, and sweet, enters the picture things change. He takes an interest in the little pixie who becomes more than just a payment for her brother's debts. What happens when a woman begins to tame the beast of her predator? What happens when a wolf learns he wants to be a protector? ** This story is a Dark Romance. If you want a fairy tale, read Cinderella.
