A sizeable number of the more than 121,000 foundations in the US -19,888- indicate that they do not accept unsolicited proposals.

We also know that a significant number of current and past FoundationSearch members (more than 16,000) do not approach them for that reason. Is there a missed opportunity here?

Many grant seekers believe that these funders are "captive funders" that act to support a single non-profit such as a school or hospital; or they have a small list of charitable organizations they wish to support and are not receptive to solicitations from new charities. In fact, many of our FoundationSearch users "tag" these foundations in order to exclude them from searches and prospect lists altogether.

But is this really an effective or advisable strategy?

Internet research on the topic reveals that Bradley Smith, the President of Foundation Center, wrote about this topic in 2011 in a blog post entitled "Don't Call us, We'll Call You". In this piece, he addresses some of the reasons why foundations state that they do not accept unsolicited proposals - the two principal reasons he cites are - one, a desire by funders to limit the volume of requests they are receiving, and two, a desire to proactively choose charities to fulfill their strategic goals. Unfortunately, he did not examine how pervasive the issue is with foundations, and we found no other credible research on the matter. So as such, we decided to do our own.

To do this, we conducted a comprehensive review of FoundationSearch data spanning more than fifteen years of US granting history for over 75,000 grantmaking foundations including more than 10 million grants to gain some insight.

Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy and a Guy. The talented twists of souls that combine to make the club are intertwined with the harsh reality of addiction. Did you know that people whom have addictions generally also are prone to high intelligence. As per Verata Health: Specifically, the study found that men who had a mean IQ score of 109 (the highest in the study) were trying drugs much earlier and also used drugs more frequently than those who tested with an IQ of 100. So the questions go through your hypothesis. Yes, each parent, friend, partner or loved one asks these questions! WHY?? These hypotheses argue that intelligent people who use drugs: Are easily bored - As a result, they look for new and novel things to push their mind. Drugs, being a dangerous and risky thing, entertain and even challenge their minds. Need new challenges - Success often comes easily to intelligent people and they may need to overcome new challenges regularly in order to feel a sense of personal progress. And what is more difficult than beating addiction? Try to fuel their creative fires - Intelligence and creativity are highly linked and the myth that drug use helps fuel creative genius has been spread for centuries. Unfortunately, this may lead intelligent people to try drugs. The Swear I Never Would Club consists of many members. I'd like to introduce you too some of them, if you'll let me. These stories are loosely based on people I've met throughout my journey through addiction and beyond. I am writing this as I experienced it through real situations and twisted tales. Enjoy the ride.

Jane is simply trying to survive. In a world of nuclear post-apocalypse, blood-crazed Objectivists, immortality-seeking cultists, NFT-obsessed killbots, power-hungry narcissists, and nymphomaniac Anarchists. A stoic soldier with a heart of gold. How long will she go on until the past catches up with her? 10,500 words of visceral action, black humor, and extreme weirdness. The story is SUPER silly, but it has an important purpose. I'm only publishing it to raise funds for my hometown in Ukraine. As a city of 300,000 on the eastern border, Sumy was one of the first to be attacked by the Russian army. For more than a month, we suffered from airstrikes, artillery, blockades, and hunger. The city was encircled, yet it never fell. Now that Russians have retreated, we see death and destruction across the whole region. The Sumy volunteer community created a charity fund to help us survive, rebuild, and protect against the new attacks. Our website https://www.fond.sumy.ua/ lists different ways you can help the Sumy region. You can choose to donate specifically for: - Medicine - First aid kits - Optics - Communication devices - Armor plates for the territorial defense - Other needs (including clothing and food for the elderly, disabled, and most vulnerable people). Like many of you I've been a pacifist for my entire life, but now the only way to stop these horrors is to ensure Ukrainians have enough weapons to defend themselves. So if you want to help the Ukrainian army, the best way is to donate to the country's biggest charity fund Come Back Alive (https://www.comebackalive.in.ua/). Over the past 8 years, they've collected over $20 million donations and have a crystal-clear reputation. Please, donate if you enjoyed my story. And if you found it to be the shittiest thing ever written - roast me in public or in person - and I'll double your donation;) Raise the awareness! Now every penny, every word can save a life. Third book after Jaime, and Angelica. Angelica's sons are grown and they are meeting their mate. He had an idea, that was all. He wanted to help his people as a whole. He didn't think he'd be the first to try it out. His life was turned upside down, but maybe that was a good thing. But how does he cope with mates that are more wolf then man? It's hard to have a relationship when your mates don't talk much. (Told from Blake and Andrews mates point of view.) Excerpt: Okay, I admit that this was my idea but, I didn't think that Alpha would send me. Yes, pack exchange would help to freshen packs. Blood, minds, get packs that were stagnant and stuck decades in the past to move forward. I recommended enforcers, warriors and Omega's, positions that would do the most good. I was none of those. I was just a random beta with barely the wolf to keep my position and not fall down a rank. But my alpha said that the other packs were not so keen on doing it. So he was going to lead by example. All known packs were put into a database by the council and random generators paired packs to exchange people. Since alpha wanted to lead, we were first to get paired. We got paired with a pack across the country. My flight out had been uneventful thankfully. Most of my things had been shipped, I had two suitcases of things I was wheeling toward the exit of the airport. Supposedly this pack had sent someone to pick me up. I'm almost to the door when I hear my name called.

The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" - Mark 4:38 When Rose told Jack she would never let go, Abigail may have taken it to heart a little too much. Chase Jones. The name alone fills her with dread, and Abigail is pretty positive she'll hold this hatred in her heart until the moment she takes her final breath. Not only was he her personal bully for years; he was also the son of her father's military commander, making her seem like easier prey. But things take an unexpected, one-hundred-and-eighty degree turn when she stumbles upon a secret he tried so desperately to keep hidden. She begins to dream of life in foster care through the eyes of a little boy who wants nothing more than to experience unconditional love. To him, it would be like living in a fairytale. The kind of fairytale Abigail has lived in her entire life. After hearing about a family in need, Abigail finds her heart breaking for whoever they might be. Being the helper that she is, she decides to volunteer herself, but soon discovers just who she signed up to help. She knows this won't be easy. What she has yet to fully grasp is that, just as every storm has a starting point, every person has a story, and every story has at least one storm.

Does your story & writing shine as far as: ★ - Concept ★ - Voice ★ - Storytelling The Standouts is a fun, but hopefully helpful contest that can give you a sense of whether your story resonates with someone who's got some experience under her belt. Great! But who are you to judge? Fair question. This is not to humble-brag, but I've been critiquing and have worked with story development for quite some time, and I've picked up a lot along the way. ☙ - As an Ambassador, I work on content projects. ☙ - If you look at my profile, you'll see everything I've published so far has managed to standout in one way or another, whether by leading me to become a Wattpad Star; or by winning a Watty (twice!); or by being picked as a Top 10 in major Wattpad contests (twice!); or being featured. All I'm saying is I'm no slouch. I'm not brilliant either. But I've got some experience around what can catch an agent, editor, or judge's eye, and I'd like to share that with the community. ☙ - In another lifetime, I used to work for HBO in Development and at ICM (the talent agency) in their writers' department which means I understand how professionals quickly gauge whether or not they'll take a closer look at a work and/or make an offer. This kind of insight can be helpful if you're planning to submit your work or even just want to stand out more here on Wattpad. ☙ - I used to provide critiques for three writers, all of them traditionally published. They seemed to value my insight. Read the RULES, LOGISTICS & PRIZES chapter for guidelines. All entries get a brief assessment of their first chapter, with winners getting more extensive critiques. "WHY CAN'T YOU GET IT INSIDE YOUR HEAD?" He trapped my trembling body between his arms and slammed his fist into the wall. I flinch at the sound as I feel tears forming in my eyes. "I'M SICK AND TIRED OF YOUR CRYING. JUST ACCEPT THE FACT THAT YOU'RE NEVER LEAVING. THIS IS YOUR LIFE NOW, WITH ME" He spits, anger consuming his voice as I push myself further against the wall. Shutting my eyes closed and turning my face to the side as I do. Moments later, I feel his rough hand on my waist and his finger grazing my cheek. "Look at me, love." His hand grips onto my jaw, his thumb playing across my lower lip. He turns my face to meet his as I lower my gaze to the floor. He lowers himself to my level and I feel his breath fanning my cheek causing my breathing to become unsteady. "I love you so much, darling. But you need to learn. You need to learn that you won't be going anywhere. You're mine." With that being said, his other hand slides down to my waist "Your entire body, your mind, your soul. All mine." All I could do was tremble at his touch. How can someone so beautiful be so heartless? ~~~~~~~~~~ All a 19 year old Aurora Shaw wanted to do was work to make a living and volunteer at the orphanage.
