Then he said, crouching down in front of her "and you know that I would never want to hurt you?"

She braced herself because Yoru knew nobody ever says that unless they are about to hurt you. But the thing was, she didn't know how much more he could hurt her than this.

Yoru Hinode grew up in Hope Hill, originally from the apartment building infamously known as Hanging Tower, neighbors with Fujio Hanaoka. Everyone loved her, especially Fujio who was her dearest friend. She was sweet and kind and everyone loved her which made Fujio so so protective of her as well. Her mother put her into figure skating classes as soon as she could walk. Figure skating was Yoru's dream. Or it was what her mother said Yoru's dream was. Her mother spent loads and loads of money and sacrificed a lot for Yoru's figure skating career- even if that meant sleeping with a sponsor that would get them out of Hope Hill and to Tokyo. As years and years later when Yoru finally returns to Hope Hill, badly injured and a ruined career, the Oya High boys realize it was way more than just Yoru's shattered wrist and fingers they needed to worry about as she quickly begins to fall into depression paired with bruises they wish they didn't know the origin of. When her life seemed to be crashing down it was like she finally found someone other than Fujio to keep her standing. Yoru figured this wouldn't be a terrible new beginning even if she hadn't completely moved on from the accident yet.

But to the surprise of the doctors treating her injury and helping her with physical therapy, it seems that Yoru's condition keeps deteriorating- even worse after the last appointment. The explanation of this was too much for anyone to stomach.
