Life is hard sometimes. Sometimes it's complicated and sometimes it has its bright spots.

For Evangeline Madsen life has had its ups and downs for sure, but then her sister Torvi dies. Devastated Evie learns that Torvi's last request is to give guardianship of her two young children to her older sister. With her father's hands full with her rebellious younger brother and her guilt in not helping her sister more from getting away from her abusive ex-husband, she brings Jordan and Mya home to New York. Going from being a career driven former prodigy to a single mother in the space of a phone call Evie has to learn how to navigate this new situation. Thankfully she doesn't seem to be alone in this though.

Newly returned from The Retreat where he was brought up to date with sixty-five years of history that should have been his future, Steve Rogers' introduction to his beautiful neighbor doesn't go how he thought it would. When trying to work up the nerve to ask her to get a cup of coffee goes out the window when she falls apart outside her door he steps up to help her. In comforting her Steve learns what's happened to her and her family. It reminds him of how his own mother had to raise him single and alone. Knowing how hard that is, he offers his help. Any time and way she needs it. He's just a phone call or a knock away. Then two weeks to the day of meeting him who he really is is exposed to the whole world.

Shocked, Evie doesn't know what to say when she learns that her quiet unassuming new neighbor is more than the sweet guy she's been getting to know. He is in fact the legendary heroic Captain America. Her nephew and niece are in awe that a hero lives right next door. Wanting someone to be there for their aunt who will protect her and them, the oldest of the two schemes to get the adults together.
