First published in 1859, Our Nig is an autobiographical narrative that stands as one of the most important accounts of the life of a black woman in the antebellum North. In the story of Frado, a spirited black girl who is abused and overworked as the indentured servant to a New England family, Harriet E. Wilson tells a heartbreaking story about the resilience of the human spirit. This edition incorporates new research showing that Wilson was not only a pioneering African-American literary figure but also an entrepreneur in the black women's hair care market fifty years before Madame C. J. Walker's hair care empire made her the country's first woman millionaire. ________________________________________ About the Author Harriet E. Wilson (1825-1900) was born in New Hampshire, where she worked from a young age as a servant to an abusive family.

The opening scene of the saga story depicts a rich Nigerian family, the Baloguns, enjoying a Sunday afternoon meal in the luxurious Banana Island, Lagos. Despite being a powerful player in Nigerian politics, Chief Balogun is shown to be just like any other human, with flaws and imperfections. The scene serves to highlight the challenges that come with being a part of an affluent family and how this can affect perception. While the public may view the Baloguns as perfect, the reality is that they are a group of individuals with varied perspectives, beliefs, and values. Through the story, we get to see how they navigate their lives despite their differences and how they strive to maintain dominance in their political engagements while trying to live in a world that is different from what they are used to. It's a tale that explores the dynamics of family, politics, and life in a society where perfection is rare. {}Ranking on Wattpad{} #1 Screenplay. |17/10/2023 #1 Africanbooks. |17/10/2023 #1 Shortstortromance. |17/10/2023 # 3 Dramafiction. |17/10/2023 # 5 Relief. |17/10/2023 #6 Blackamerican. |17/10/2023 #6 Nigerianbooks. |17/10/2023 #10 Script. |17/10/2023 #11 Nigerianstories. |17/10/2023 #14 Hotlist. |17/10/2023 #21 Unitedkingdom. |17/10/2023 #85 Africanamerican. |17/10/2023 #89 Nigerianromance. |17/10/2023 #113 Wattpadauthors. |17/10/2023 #409 Generalfiction. |17/10/2023
