Even with the oppressive and strict rules of upper class society in the Regency era, chaos always finds a way. Set in the same time period and societal position as Pride and Prejudice, this story follows Jane and Frederick, two very different individuals, alike only in that they want to break free of societal expectations, end up married to each other, and therefore stuck together in exactly the kind of life they wanted to escape. This is a work in progress of a novel, please keep that in mind as you read on. I am putting these chapters out to get feedback on, so if you notice something that is historically inacurate, or have ideas for improvement, leave a comment, that would be appreciated (: Cover by Shutterstock AI generation, and me. The title of this book is just a working title and I will likely change it later.

Penniless and lacking the looks to attract a worthy husband, Jane Burton must trick a man into marriage to save her family from financial ruin. * When Jane's father loses his family's fortune in a game of cards and swallows a bullet as a result, Jane knows it is up to her to save her family from financial ruin by marrying a wealthy man. The odds are however against Jane, for without a sizable dowry or a face lovely enough to seize the attention of a man, the only way to find a husband is to trick one into marriage by creating a scandal. But what happens when her plan fails, and the wrong gentleman is implicated? CW: This story contains mentions of suicide.
