In the Byzantine Empire of the Middle Ages, William, the princeps hereditarius, finds his heart torn between love and duty. For he is enamored with Héloïse, a simple maid, but bound by law to the throne. Meanwhile, Albert, his fidelis consiliarius, conceals a secret love for William, creating a triangulum of desire.

As kingdom and hearts are threatened by war and betrayal, the three must navigate the labyrinth of their relationships and find a way to protect both their love and their empire. For what is a crown, if not a symbol of love and loyalty? "Fide, sed cui?" William whispers, as he decides where his loyalty truly lies.
