Everything began with a disease that was a trigger for an unidentified virus that took over through their city. The pandemic is to blame for the increasing number of missing persons. And while all of this was going on, Sadie-a criminal that the scientist had been trying to control-uncovers something much bigger and more dangerous than she ever would have imagined, which is why she wants to find a cure in order to save the world. 

And when she eventually learns the truth about Ishtar-the Goddess of Love, Fertility, and War-and the reason why so many people want her head due to a prophecy they wish to be stopped, everything finally makes sense. That calls for Sadie's death to happen.
