38 A seemingly bottomless pit was found, for which the depth can't be determined. Over time, scores of people began using it to illegally dump trash. Many have jumped believing that they'll find life's answers within it. Today, we learn the truth about the hole.

~~~
 Susan "Maysie" May Hornsby was a toddler when the sinkhole opened on the edge of the Missouri River, in the Tristate area (and six towns of Sioux City). It drastically changed her nation (drying up the Mississippi, slowing interstate trade to a standstill, making drinkable water a concern, forcing the nation to reroute a whole major waterway-not to mention the dumping and jumpers) but the child herself couldn't understand any of that. This made her nightmares all the more remarkable-though no one would know it, at the time.
When the world ended, she was left with "the bad man" Alder Nahimana as her sole guardian. She was raised in the void of space as "the only people left alive". But there were more humans out there-and once her guardian passed, she sets out to find them, accidentally becoming crucial to the preservation of her mankind along the way.
Not bad for a child whose world ended when she was 5.
Love is strange. It exists in many forms and is one of the key components that makes humans happy, but there isn't a lot of understanding surrounding it. At least not the kind of understanding with which the average person identifies. Agnes is one of the few people that can accept all kinds of love. Despite her dated name, she is a woman in her late 20's dealing with the death of most of her family. She's now stuck in the middle of figuring out how to raise children that she never saw in her future and deciding what love means for her, when it has to exist within layer upon layer of complication. She let go of her boyfriend after almost a decade because their love wasn't meant to exist under the strain of children, only to find herself confronted with the overpowering connection of her old high school sweetheart. The same man she ran away from because their values hardly aligned when it came to how love should be expressed long term. Within the midst of learning how to raise children and balance her ever-building career, Agnes tries to recover from her mother's death, seek comfort without complicating her circumstance, and figure out why her mother would name her Agnes. Finding real comfort starts to feel impossible, as her most available options are her ex-boyfriend and her assistant. Completed! Rejected 6 times** "This one just isn't for us." By far the most plain rejection I have ever received and I can respect it. 1/22/2022 - 1K 9/28/2022 - 10K
The New World has been the last peaceful and resourceful country for nearly two hundred years. Or at least that's what they say. Samantha Ivory has been living a boring average life in an old town with lots of history. That is, until the news of a carnival coming to town ignites new excitement. This carnival promises a night of fun for everyone. There are games, promising rewards, and food that no one has ever seen or tasted before. But what if this carnival isn't what it seems to be? And who are these people that have come into her town? Can Sam figure it out before it's too late, or will she get stuck playing a game she never wanted to play? (Currently completed as of October 2023, and finished editing as of March 2024) *****Excerpt***** Excerpt: Instead of seeing myself standing in front of me, there is somebody else and it's not my brother or anyone I know. A boy no older than me is just standing there, he is wearing a gray shirt with a hole in the shoulder and it has a handful of stains and dirt spots on it. I immediately know he is not from Treegrass. Not only have I never seen him before in my life but everyone in our town always wears nice clean and washed clothes, therefore nobody should be looking like him. The boy has a small cut on his cheek and is thin, a lot thinner than he should be. I look away from him and around at my surroundings, there is no one else here. I regain my composure and look at him again. That's when he says something that makes my blood run cold. "Run."
After a power outage that shook the world, a tsunami that left her hometown underwater, and a viral disease that resulted in a separation from the rest of her family, Kassandra Tate thought she'd never live to actually see the monsters behind the first three waves of the apocalypse. That is, until she realizes the monster has always been inside of her. Killing other humans isn't something Kassandra would ever choose to do, but she doesn't have a choice. There is this voice in the back of her head saying things she can't comprehend--this inescapable instinct pulling her to do the unthinkable. Murder is the only thing on her mind when she shows up at a makeshift shelter near the washed-up remains of her home in California, but before she can so much as make a move, she notices just who the refugees are: a girl and a boy around her age, and--most surprisingly--her twin sister Kalina. Kalina was supposed to have died long ago in the epidemic. She and the rest of their family had been quarantined into a sick-ward of their safety camp, and Kassandra had been told that survival was hopeless--that they were goners. So what was Kalina doing here now, alive? In an attempt to reconnect with her twin, Kassandra curves her urge to attack as best as she can. The longer she stays with Kalina and the refugees, however, the harder she finds it is to keep her composure. How can Kassandra control the Silencer within her, before it takes over completely?
