Both men and women can contract the sexually transmitted illness (STD) chlamydia. It is a contagious illness that raises the risk of reactive arthritis, HIV, ectopic pregnancy, and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). The chlamydia test has a very high specificity of over 95% and a very high level of accuracy. Additionally, it can identify chlamydia as early as 1 to 2 weeks after exposure. In order to reduce the risk and problems associated with Chlamydia infection, routine STI screening is required. The Chlamydia test is straightforward, painless, and typically quite accurate. This illness can remain latent in the body for many years, only producing an undetectable infection with no symptoms. That infection is dangerous to your health because it might get worse and cause symptoms.
What is under examination?
Chlamydia tests look for chlamydia infection in urine or swabs. Women are tested using a sample of the discharge from the cervix for chlamydia culture or antigen testing. A Pap test may include the chlamydia test.
Do I need to prepare?
Before receiving a chlamydia test, it could be asked to wait 24 hours without taking any antibiotics. You must, however, speak with a medical professional if you need any additional guidance on how to get ready for the chlamydia test.
