Steve Harrington, a recent high school graduate who didn't get into college, is now being forced by his father to work in the brand-new Starcourt Mall, at Scoops Ahoy, an ice cream parlor.
Steve was a bit of a charmer in high school, and he isn't going to let a recent breakup or this job stop him from getting a date. Only problem is, none of the girls he asks says yes.
Just when Steve's convinced the free samples and failed attempts are all he'll get this summer, someone new walks into Scoops. And it changes everything.
