Everyone in town knew of the story of Joyce Byers - they knew that she had three children, two of which she gained custody of by sending off her daughter - who wasn't hers biologically - to live with Lonnie, her ex-husband.
They knew of the guilt she felt - and still feels. And they feel it too - the young Francis Byers had her entire life upheaved because she was the result of Lonnie's infidelity. She was a bastard child, and no one thought to expect anything of her. Lonnie was a mean drunk and a cruel person - they were sure he would break her, in a way that only a parent could. Neglect, pain.
In a town far away from her friends, from everything she once knew, she grew up. Her heart and her soul only had one goal. When asked what she wanted to be when she was older, she knew exactly what she wanted.
"𝑇𝑜 𝑏𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑚𝑦 𝑓𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟", she would say with upmost conviction. When asked where she saw herself in ten years, she would reply the same every time;
"𝐴𝑛𝑦𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒."
The only problem was her brother, Will, and his rascally friends that she had come to love as siblings too. Not as much as Will, of course, but so much so that she would ensure to check up on them whenever she secretly called, or ask to join in on their dnd games from over the phone.

Aarna never thought two pink lines could shake her world.
She stood frozen, staring at the test in her trembling hands. Pregnant. A word she had longed to hear, yet feared the most.
Would he accept it? Or would he push her away again, just like before?
The door creaked open. Her heart pounded.
Sharad's sharp gaze met hers. "What are you hiding?"
Her breath hitched. She wasn't ready for this. Not yet.
