Rouge, Knuckles, Amy, and Tails decided to explore in the creepy dark forest who was still standing all over the years. And Rouge invited Shadow to join with them. When they got there, they got lost and then saw a sillhoutte who was wearing a cloak in the dark, massive woods. Mobius is home to quite interesting creatures, from animals that function like humans that can have super abilities, to hybrids that function like normal animals but still has that human like function. Sonic is one of those hybrids, he doesn't really know anything about his birth parents since he was abandoned on a farm with a nice couple...though he wasn't the only Mobian Hybrid.
