One woman's account and very possibly tall tale, of the highs and lows of the struggles of substance abuse and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) seen through the very narrow lense that is a one person perspective, coupled with "not quite innate - self awareness" makes for a wild ride, with many moments of success; coupled with the plights of self sabotage. In the end you'll find yourself screaming at the narrator to get it together, but simultaneously cheering when you begin to see how beautiful life can be, through the eyes of someone who sees things in such sparks of extremes. Bliss. Delight. Contentment. Euphoria. Elation. Joy. Glee. Felicity. Jubilation. These are all words synonymous to the word happiness. But what is true happiness? Beck is top of her class when it comes to Maths and Science and her future seems bright. However, she struggles with social anxiety and relationships. Beck is autistic and spends most of her life locked away in her own mind as she reads her collection of books to escape her abusive alcoholic father. But once her eyes meet a grey eyed boy from across the room her world won't be the same. (18+ violence, adult themes, bullying, harassment and other issues) Being Autistic myself I have put a lot of me in this book. I've exaggerated certain aspects for entertainment values but other than that this is how awkward I feel most of the time. I don't see many books by women who write about their experiences in a creative way to spread awareness in a fun and compassionate way. This is mine I guess.
