Kara Kelly is the younger sister of Jack Kelly a newsie through and through.
Kara had to keep her identity a secret for fear of getting sent to the young women's  school of etiquette, the last place she wanted to be again.
So when she and the other newsies strike and warden Snyder recognizes her and her brother she has to do what she must to stay out of that place including temporarily moving To Brooklyn under the protection of Spot Conlon.

But this transfer brings trouble and lots of other things too. When on your way to the lodging house Snyder, warden of the refuge, spots you, this even leads to an unlikely meeting bringing up feeling you thought you would never feel.
