The pogrom just after Anna's birth in Moravia in 1899 overshadows her life in Vienna, Hamburg and the concentration camp Terezin. The musically gifted Anna Skrainka faces her personal problems with the temperament of a diva until she runs into forces she cannot control: Aryanization, departure of loved ones, fire bombing, slave labour and death. Based on a diary, Anna's true story and that of her parents, sibling and children, raises the question, who survived?

Prague, 1989. Right after the Velvet Revolution, new college graduate Elishka moves from rurual Maryland to the city of Prague in the hopes of being a part of history. There she meets Milo, a self-absorbed composer looking for new symphonies to play his music, his best friend Sam, a student looking for a PhD topic, and other adventure seekers hoping to make their fame and fortune in a newly opened city. Elishka lands a job in the Jewish quarter of Prague researching which (if any) Jewish families survived the Holocaust. There she confronts her family’s secrets and lies. The search takes her to Hungary and the Bohemian countryside for the priest that married her grandparents. The discovery of history can change a person, a family, a people, or a country. Elishka realizes that the truth is hers to manipulate and is forced to make a decision.
