He gets some memories back from before the maze and remembers about the supernatural. It's even scarier - what he's going through - because he recognizes everything that happens. There's a voice, whispered riddles. Whispers by the same, old, rusty voice. Thomas doesn't tell anyone. He tried to, but something stopped him from talking. The nogitsune is in control again.
