Summary:
In 1967, Georgina was the legendary Georgina Monroe, the best Marilyn Monroe drag impersonator New York City had ever seen. But, in 1994, Georgina is a recluse who is scared of everyone and everything. Enter Ruiz, a young Latina pageant drag queen known at Audrey at the Ritz, famous for her Audrey Hepburn impersonation. Since she was fourteen, she had admired Georgina Monroe's career obsessively, always wondering about why she disappeared so suddenly. During a chance encounter, Ruiz gets to meet her, and through a gentle friendship and strong bond, Ruiz starts to uncover a story she never could have imagined in her worst nightmares. Stories of the mob, glamour, love, heartbreak, addiction, murder, and intensely dangerous secrets abound in this LGBTQ serial about ever present issues that pervade throughout time. Through voices young and old, we follow the story of Georgina and Ruiz as witnesses to truths that are rarely told.
In the haze of Prohibition-era Chicago, everyone knows the name Max Moretti, the charming bootlegger who moves whiskey like water and vanishes like smoke.
But no one knows the truth.
Because Max is really Maxine Moretti ,a woman hidden behind a fedora, running her family's empire in a world that would destroy her if it ever found out.
Then Evelyn Rossi walks in, a bold, sharp-tongued speakeasy owner with eyes that see too much. Their business starts with liquor, but every stolen glance tastes more like danger.
In a city built on secrets, Max finds herself slipping - caught between the empire she's sworn to protect and the woman who makes her want to burn it all down.
Because love and lies can't coexist forever.
And when the smoke clears, even a ghost has to face what's real.
