That's a quote that he had once heard, back when he was still a human, back when everything is fine, back when the only thing he need to worry about is on how to keep his husky-like best friend from causing trouble by pushing her nose where it doesn't belong.
Looking at his mutilated body, Sigurd, the Herrscher of Combat, saw his whole life flash before his eyes just like how a movie would play out, when he saw the memory of the smiling face of his best friend, he wondered how would his life went should he make a different choice.
A Spin-Off story of Honkai: Predgovor, this story is mainly focusing on the origin story of the Herrscher of Combat, Sigurd.
Spoiler: There would be no bad nor tragic ending for the protagonist, since this is a What if story in which Sigurd didn't got sumoned as a Herrscher in Predgovor universe.
You can regard this Sigurd and the Herrscher of Combat Sigurd as 2 seperate entity, because while it's true that they have the same start, having the same opportunity and encounter, but in the end, the both of them choose to take a different action.
