"I swear to protect you."
His voice was quieter than I'd ever heard it - nothing like the sharp, hostile tone he'd used back when we were enemies fighting over scraps of survival. For the first time, there was something soft in his words... something almost human.

He stepped closer, slowly, as if afraid I'd bolt. His arms lifted, hesitant at first, then firm as he wrapped them around me. His warmth pressed against my trembling body, shielding me from the cold wind and the distant groans echoing through the ruined streets. For a moment, it felt like the world outside didn't exist.

"But all you've ever done is hurt me," I whispered, my voice cracking. "Why... how could I ever trust you after everything you've done?"

Silence settled between us - heavy, fragile, broken only by the distant shuffle of the undead somewhere beyond the barricades. He didn't let go. He didn't look away. He just breathed, steady and warm against my forehead.

Then he spoke.

"It's just us now." he said as we both stared at taehyung as he lied there breathing slowly

And somehow, that truth was more terrifying and more comforting - than the apocalypse itself.
