As Madeline was going through a really hard time nobody even realised, not even her closest friends. Her mother was abusive and her dad left her when she was 6. Apparently she was a constant reminder of him  to her mother so her life has always been rough and mistreated.  Nobody ever noticed. 

She never got along with Amber freeman, that was until something happened and amber suddenly switched her opinion on the girl and slowly joined her friendship group. Saving her mentally and physically eventually.
