Travis Phelps had finally accepted the stupid fact that his life was laid out before him and he couldn't change that. He'd forgotten all about his dumb high school crushes. Until one day, his phone lit up with a text message from a certain blue-haired boy and he found himself falling all over again.

Sal screamed so loudly that it hurt Travis's ears and echoed in his head for several minutes after it had finished. The sound was unlike anything he'd ever heard on TV, unlike anything he'd ever made when his father beat him. It was visceral, primal. Filled with the most basic of instinct from any living thing: fear. A kind of it that was so deep, it lacerated Sal's vocal cords as it tore through his stomach and out of his throat, loud enough to reach heaven, desperate enough to be a prayer. It was the sound of death. ========== Sal can't find his anxiety medication on the fourth of July. He subsequently proceeds to have one of the worst breakdowns he's ever had in Nockfell, directly in front of Travis Phelps. (25,288 words) CONTENT WARNINGS: This fic contains graphic depictions of PTSD flashbacks, panic attacks, suicidality, and descriptions of child abuse, harm and trauma. (Cover art is my own)

Both were miserable, though it was hardly obvious to outsiders. They were polar opposites yet the exact same. Brought together by the very same religiousness that was slowly killing them, the two are at first enemies. Though after growing together, they make a decision. They were going to run away. Travis grew up knowing a couple things. One of those things was that being gay was a sin, and that if you were gay, or anything like that, you're going to hell. Or at least, that's what he was told. But after an incident with Sal in the boys washroom, Travis starts to think that he might have been wrong the whole time. Just a quick warning, this is a pretty heavy story and contains things like abuse (both verbal and physical), drug use, suicidal thoughts and attempts, slurs and swearing. I'm adding trigger warnings but read carefully, don't force yourself to read anything you don't want to :) Otherwise enjoy the story!
