This is the story set in the 70s a man named Jack Sterling an undercover police detective assigned to protect a woman named Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) as another man named Douglas Morgan a former police officer fired for breaking the rules and not following orders he went crazy and tried to shoot the captain but Sterling stopped him and locked him up and like always kept arresting every criminal in the city became the #1 crime fighter and became detective of the year then Douglas escaped from prison and he has chosen Syndey as his victim to get revenge on Sterling for ruining his life and taking his job as a cop along with Syndey's friend Rosalyn Rosenfield (Jennifer Lawrence) and Jack's partner Christopher Erickson
so Jack and Christopher has to keep Sydney and Rosalyn alive and stop Douglas from killing them and anyone else who wants to stand in his way
