The game of life is always rigged. This is known. But the real mystery of existence was never about life... it was about death.

How could death, such a prominent finish line at the end of every mortals path, be tampered with?

The answer is easy. The Deities of Death are incredibly competitive creatures. Turning the lives of mortals into chips in their race to collect, the Deities fight each other for the title of God of Death.

Erebus has been immortal from the beginning of creation, formed from shadows and heat by the Gods of the old world, the stars themselves. He is well-practiced in his magic, staid and forever devious in his ways.

Verena is quite the opposite. As the chosen predecessor of Erebus's original challenger, Verena was once normal. With human origin, she was chosen by her maker to become the new champion of death. The only problem? Verena's heart remained human.

Though she loves the thrill of the hunt, Verena finds herself in love with a mortal man. Erebus, ancient and all knowing, forbids their union and tries to pry Verena away, though his jealousy is unbeknownst to her.

Will she obey him, or will her love set a domino effect down the strings of life? Will her one simple emotion conquer all else and send her in a spiral that not even Erebus can pull her out of?

How much damage can a single love do to the balance of the universe and everyone in it?
