The story is about a girl named Sophie who falls in love with a simple wooden chair in her performing arts classroom. She spends all her free time with the chair, talking to it and even giving it a name, Charlie. Sophie is devastated when she comes home one day to find that the school has sold Charlie in a garage sale. She searches for him but cannot find him until she receives a package from him, telling her that he has been sold to a collector who understood their love and sent him back to her. Sophie and Charlie are reunited and continue their unconventional love story, going on adventures and whispering sweet nothings to each other every night.
