After a crushing defeat in the 2018 World Cup, Japan's football team needs to regroup. Many of the older patrons of the sport aren't too disturbed by the lack of trophies, but newcomer Anri Teiri is furious - and she's determined to fix what she sees as the problem with Japanese players. She hires maverick trainer Jinpachi Ego, who devises a strange yet rigorous plan in hopes of regaining that competitive edge: He takes the 300 best young soccer players in the country, sends them to a state-of-the-art training facility, a football prison, and whittles them down until he has the absolute best striker in the nation. One of those players is Isagi Yoichi, a forward whose team recently lost a chance to play Nationals. After receiving an invitation to this unorthodox "player improvement" program called Blue Lock, Isagi finds himself literally playing for his life to make the team.

Now here's the fun part. Jinpachi Ego had something else in mind. Selecting one female in all of Japan to play for men's U-20 football team, in secret without letting anyone know. So now we have an extra, Now that's a problem. Aerith Sumeragi, chosen exclusively by Ego Jinpachi, is going to have her whole life twisted as she joins this hell of a facility, not knowing what she's into. It all seems fun and games in the beginning but soon enough love also pours into the mix. But that's much later. Right now all she has to focus on is to survive. She's been put to a test and now she has to clear it with her life on the line. But nothing and no one is going to stand in her way of coming out on top.
