Elizabeth Lamar, a young slaved woman of dreams to be a playwright is granted her brothers freedom given she agrees to marry her masters obnoxious, narcissistic and ill tempered son.
However, he, as obnoxious as he is portrayed, has much less of a choice than her. To marry a slave or his parrot of a cousin. After all, Elizabeth would bend to his every demands.
With both to no choice, they agree to be wed. Instead, their assumptions of each other turning to be quite polar. She, not as obedient as he had hoped and he, not as brute as rumored.
