The Promise He Broke

Mulan and Kanan grew up together, two kids in the foster system who found family in each other when they had nowhere else to turn.

At seventeen, Kanan promised Mulan he would protect her. He promised her a home, a family, and a life better than the ones they came from.

She believed him.

Years later, Mulan is married to the man she once thought would save her-but Kanan has become the very person she needs saving from.

His addiction, infidelity, anger, and violence slowly destroy the life they built together, while Mulan holds onto the memory of the boy he used to be. But after losing her baby and nearly losing herself, she finally realizes that loving Kanan cannot be the reason she stays.

So she leaves.

For the first time, Mulan must learn who she is without Kanan-and build a life that belongs entirely to her.

But leaving isn't the end of their story.
