At first, it was a regular night for Bruce as he went out through the night as the dark vigilante, Batman. As time ticked by, the night grew - stranger - beneath the bat signal's light, was a note. From the Joker. Months pass before Batman is seen out on the streets again. But he's different, strange. But most importantly, what is up with his eyes? ----- In this world, Batman doesn't have a Robin. He never has. He sticks to himself; even the Justice League don't see him. No one sees Batman without a mask except Alfred. Batman is darker, already slightly twisted in the head - he's spent his whole life, fighting people like the Joker, people who don't deserve his pity. So he doesn't give then them any. He holds grudges even beyond the memory of others. He hates asking for help. ----- "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

The Bat and the Jester
This is a realism-based story that takes place in modern 21st century Gotham City, a fictional city in an unnamed state along the eastern seaboard in what is assumed to be the United States. There are no meta-humans, or any other beings with any kind of super-powers, and all of the Bat's gizmos are based off of existing 2010 to 2020 technology. Bruce Wayne is a 27 year old man who struggles with being a CEO and a masked vigilante, Penguin is a typical, yet eccentric crime boss, Harleen Quinzel is having trouble dealing with what she was, compared to what the Joker turned her in to, and as for the Joker himself? He is, for lack of a better term: Bat-Shit crazy. This is my personal view of what might happen if a masked and armored vigilante began a crusade to clean up crime in a city the size of Boston or Manhattan. I tried to make the characters as real as possible, although I took a little poetic license and made the GCPD consider the Bat more of a nuisance rather than a wanted criminal, which while realistic would have created an entirely different story. Shadow of the Bat (ONE)
Terror-stricken and helpless, Gotham City is a modern-day, suburban super city that is infested with criminals, drugs and filth. On the verge of bankruptcy, and with very few residents that continue to stay in the city, Gotham seems to be at a low point. Emerging from the shadows is a vigilante, one dressed like a bat. The self-proclaimed "Batman" fights criminals and anything illegal dressed in a carbon fiber, Kevlar suit. Now equipped with a trusty sidekick Robin, Batman seems to be becoming famous. Batman and Robin seem to be a symbol of hope for some, but just costumed freaks for others. Months after the first appearance of Batman, Shadow of the Bat details Batman and Robin's first real supervillain encounter ... and how they created him. A new crime boss arrives in Gotham, calling himself The Joker. A ruthless murderer, The Joker dons a purple suit and clown makeup. Gotham is now higher in crime and drug consumption than before the time of Batman. As The Joker recruits more people to join his side in a proclaimed "War on Gotham", Batman and Robin must fight through the criminal ranks, and use all the skills in their bodies to save Gotham for the first time . . . and definitely not the last.
