Welcome, welcome, to the 66th annual Hunger Games.

As the dawn of the new year's Reaping falls upon Panem, 15-year-old victor Finnick Odair is preparing to take his first two tributes under his wing. The youngest mentor to date, he has vowed to do everything he can to ensure survival for District Four's newest fighters - to keep them alive for as long as possible. However, the pressures of being a new mentor are great, and something one can only prepare so much for until the fateful day approaches.

District Four's escort takes the stage, preparing to reap two new souls for the taking. As she reads the names aloud, Finnick listens intently, and the whole world is silent. Unknown to him is the girl, but the boy, 15-year-old Calder Brooks, is a name Finnick recognizes. Deja vu strikes the victor like lightning as Harbor begins his mournful walk to the stage, his body language evident of a child who already believes his life is over. As mentor, Finnick understands that it's his job to make the boy feel some semblance of hope.

The gasps that arose afterwards were monumental. Him, of all people? It couldn't be, could it? Yet it was. At age 14, Finnick Odair was called forth to be a tribute in the 65th annual Hunger Games.
