OTDRs are essential for testing and troubleshooting fiber optic cables. They are used to test new installations, measure the length of a cable, measure the attenuation (or loss) of the cable, and to locate faults. OTDRs can also be used to measure the reflectance of a cable, which can be useful in diagnosing issues such as poor connections or high splice losses.
