In the ruins of a world named Alternia lies a nation of Trollnem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 Hives. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the Hives in line by forcing them all to send two trolls between the ages of 12-18 to fight in the annual Homestuck Games.
Sixteen-year-old Karkatniss Everdeen regards it as a stupid excuse of execution when he steps forward for his sister's place in the Games. But Karkatniss has been close to death and the dead beforeβ and survival is simply second nature for him. Without really meaning to, he becomes a contender. But to win he will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Karkat Vantas. A very unpopular, short, and short-tempered troll. He tries desperately to make it through his first year in a human school, but with everyone still not fully accepting trolls added on with his so-called 'stupid' blood color, he can't find a single person who understands him, yet. Dave Strider. Maybe one of the most popular guys in the school. Nobody knows why he's always wearing those cool ironic shades of his, and most people want to find out. But Dave himself wants his eyes to stay hidden, and nobody else has ever seen them. He thinks that if anyone did, they would make fun of him and his good reputation would immediately disappear. The two, basically opposites, find that they actually might get along and relate to each other. But who knows what a simple sentence could do? (this is my second fanfic and the first homestuck one i've ever written so if the writing sucks don't judge! also none of the art is mine. ships included will most likely be johndave at the beginning, and throughout the fic theres gonna be erisol, rosemary, some jadenep, johndirk, and vrisrezi! if you don't like one or more of these ships deal with it.) Echokit and her friends live in a very large Clan called PondClan where a strange sickness has been infecting many of the cats. The sickness is not very deadly, but it can kill cats slowly overtime. The medicine cats are determined to find a cure for it, but meanwhile Hazelstar creates a new rule for the Clan: As long as the sickness is still around, no kit may become an apprentice until the age of 10 moons to protect them from being exposed to the sickness. Echokit, who is only one moon old and already feels ready to be an apprentice, is obviously outraged by this, just as many of her siblings and friends are.
