This is the story of a person named Stanley.

Stanley worked for a company in a big building where they were Employee #427.

Employee #427's job was simple: they sat at their desk in Room 427 and they pushed buttons on a keyboard.

Orders came to them through a monitor on their desk telling them what buttons to push, how long to push them, and in what order.

This is what Employee #427 did every day of every month of every year, and although others may have considered it soul rending,

Stanley relished every moment that the orders came in, as though they had been made exactly for this job.

And Stanley was happy.

And then one day, something very peculiar happened.

Something that would forever change Stanley;

Something they would never quite forget.

They had been at their desk for nearly an hour when they had realized not one single order had arrived on the monitor for them to follow.

No one had shown up to give them instructions, call a meeting, or even say 'hi'. Never in all their years at the company had this happened, this complete isolation.

Something was very clearly wrong. Shocked, frozen solid, Stanley found themself unable to move for the longest time.

But as they came to their wits and regained their senses, they got up from their desk and stepped out of their office.

BOOK 2 OF 3 Sequel to Tell Me The Truth - "Violet, I need to tell you something." Phoebe mumbles somewhat nervously. "Can it wait?" "Not really, it's about who-" "Fuck, I don't have time, I'm sorry!" I take everything from her hands and the doorman opens the door to the building for me with a big smile. I don't so much as glance around on the way to the elevator. Usually I would take my time studying the current interior and grade them in my head, but I actually have no time for any of that. I tap my foot impatiently in the elevator and straighten out everything in my hands while I head up to the fortieth floor. I watch the numbers move up achingly slow and barely wait for the doors to open before I slip through them. I head down the hall and see an open door that leads to a big office space. When I enter, I'm immediately met with a warm smile from the receptionist. I exhale heavily and smile back. "Violet Parker?" She asks and I nod my head, still trying to catch my breath. "Sorry I'm late." "You're right on time." She stands from her desk and leads me toward the conference room in the middle of different offices and cubicles. She opens the door and gestures for me to step through. The chatter from the men in the room dies down when I enter and I barely look up at them, just trying to get my stuff on the table before I drop any of it. "I apologize for not being here sooner, I see you started without me." I say with a smile. "Not at all, you can't start the show without the star." A friendly sounding older gentleman says and I smile wider, turning on the charm, and finally look up to assess the room of men in front of me. I lift my head to look toward the end of the table and everything stills. My eyes lock with a very familiar pair of green ones and I feel the color drain from my face as everything around me turns into white noise. Ryan's cheerful whistling echoes throughout the hallway as we emerge in the cafeteria and a small hush settles over everyone. Ryan grabs a tray and then leads us to a table in the corner of the room. Sunlight is streaming through the big glass doors and as I stare my mind begins to go blank, my breathing becoming nonexistent while Ryan and the new guard sit across from me talking quietly. I'm thrown back into my memories and before I can stop it fear is constricting my throat, screams bouncing off the walls around me. Running feet pounding against the floors. Shouts everywhere I turn. My heart beats faster and faster as it crawls up my throat, and I don't try to stop it. The scream breaks free of me as I begin to claw at my arms and face until every trace of the memory is gone.
