Ramses lives alone without his parents, like most of the kids in his neighborhood. Despite this, he still has his best friend, Dante. He and Dante live in a world of magick, where the everyday person uses mana in their daily life. Ramses is timid, awkward, and introverted. Dante is eccentric, popular, and extroverted. They are polar opposites, but have each other's back no matter what as they enroll in the Magick Academy.

Eventually, as the two boys grow up to become promising adults, a war breaks out between the three races inhabiting the planet of Forylorn. The Umbras, The Makinaryas, and the Talinos. They enscript themselves into the Umbral Military, where they realize that the military and real world is much different and much more brutal than they previously thought. 

(This is the 1st Book within the "The Tale of a Lost King" Trilogy.)
