The Crown, the Sword and the Bow, the three most important symbols of the Empire. So much so it was on every coin, every banner, every flag, everywhere you looked.
The Crown of course sat on the head of it's King. It's single gem glowing brightly on the otherwise plain coronet. It would only glow for someone of royal blood and only glow for those its magic judged to be worthy to wear it.
The Sword and the Bow belonged to the two men who led and trained the Kings army. They were always, always, always a mated pair. The Swordsman was in charge of the grounded troops. Trained them in swords, axes, lances, pikes, mace, whatever it took. The Archer trained the cavalry, trained them in archery, javelin, catapults, ranged weapons of all sorts, even daggers. There was naturally some overlap but the system worked well and had for centuries.
Something however had gone wrong somewhere however and as Marcus watched the new King lift the crown to his head, and watched that stone glow brightly to a cheering crowd, he knew it was his job to somehow figure it out because it was to his hand that the Sword glowed. He would one day be the Swordsman and one of the leaders of an army that had just been dismantled and replaced by the new King's lackeys.
The current pair of men who'd been in charge up to this point, who'd trained and sheltered him all the while searching for his destined archer, now laid an impossible task before him.
Search out the ancient ruins of the first Empire and try and find traces and information of the long lost magic that had created the three artifacts to begin with and perhaps work out what had gone wrong with the Crown, and to find the archer who could wield the Bow. Something that might be just a bit easier if Marcus was a true Soldier's soldier and actually liked men in that way. Which he decidedly doesn't.
