He tenses, eyes flashing, but he doesn't fight back right away. Instead, he leans in slightly, lowering his voice just enough that only I can hear.
"Easy, sweetheart," he murmurs. "At least let me buy you dinner before you try to kill me."
I tighten my grip on his shirt and jerk him forward-not enough to actually hurt, just enough to keep up the illusion. "Shut up and make this convincing," I mutter.
He grins, a devilish glint in his eye. "Oh, I plan to."
